Cardiac Arrest strikes people of all ages and fitness levels, Canadian Red Crossusually without warning. Many of these lives could be saved if bystanders act promptly to phone 911 and begin CPR, and if trained responders provide defibrillation within minutes. According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, approximately 6,500 to 7,000 cardiac arrests occur each year in Ontario alone. Most SCA cases are in fact treatable, but due to the lack of AEDs in the workplace, the victim has no chance.
